artivism

2016

The film documents the process of establishing the Archive for Arab Palestinian Culture and Art, initiated by Orit Hasson Walder, Lecturer in the course “Artivism” at the Faculty of the Arts, the Midrasha College of Art, Beit Berl. The Archive initiative arose from the need to create a database/archive of Arabic art and culture to benefit Arab students. The initiative began in 2016 as a pilot. The majority of the Archive was created in 2018 by 15 students – 4 Jewish women and 11 Arab students. The students posted materials, putting their name on the digital file as an action of leaving a personal imprint. Thus a joint community archive was created by all of the participants working together. The goal: reveal Palestinian Arab art and culture and make it more accessible, from canonical materials of well-known Israeli and international artists through “unofficial” biographical materials gathered from social environs, family and friends. The art database on the visual arts, music and cinema will serve the students as future arts educators.
